Join us at The Great Nosh — New York's hottest picnic, June 22 on Governor's Island! Chefs from some of the city's best restaurants and bakeries are collaborating on the food — Atoboy x Apollo Bagels, Sunn's x Elbow Bread, to name a couple. Gail Simmons and Pati Jinich will host cooking demonstrations with grandmothers, there will be live music, "Summer Camp" with Susan Alexandra, and so much more. Save your seat on the picnic blanket!
Picnics are one of our favorite ways to enjoy a meal. Our team needs no excuse to text friends, grab a picnic blanket, and head to the park.
For a last minute al fresco meal, packing up whatever leftovers are on hand is a great option, but if you have time to plan for your picnic, pick recipes that transport well and are best when served at room temperature.
Hand-pies or savory pastries like spinach and feta boyos or eggplant-filled pastelikos are great options. Meanwhile, spinach patties called rissoles, Persian kuku sabzi, and Greek leek fritters or prassokeftedes are ideal recipes to use up a bounty of spring and summer produce. For salads, opt for ones that can sit with the dressing for a bit without wilting like a German potato salad and carrots with chickpeas and quinoa. And finally for dessert, we like to lean into summer’s bounty with recipes like a peach tart or a simple summer fruit cake.
Happy picnicking.
